 Tapestry Belly Dance Academy

Egyptian, Turkish, Greek, Armenian and Folkloric Dance Styles are covered in each class. Music is discussed and broken down.  History of the dance, Costumes and Performance Styles are presented during classes.

We consider Belly Dance a cultural art that combines exercise with entertainment. You will find belly dance will strengthen your core, trim your body, increase strength and flexibility and build self esteem.

 

In Tapestry Level I you will learn:

The Basic Belly Dance Body Positions, Beledi Pose, Arch, Contraction, Pelvic Tilt, Shoulder Tilt, Hip Push, Hip Contraction, Hip Lift. Shoulder and Hand Articulation

The Basic Body Movements; Belly Rolls, Hip Rolls, Snake Arms, Hip Figure 8, Circles and Chest Circles

Hip Articulations: Up and Down, Diagonal, Side Out, Tucks

The Basic 4 Shimmies; Side to Side, Up & Down, Vibrations and Running Step

The Basic Traveling Steps; Step Point Step, Back Up Steps, Step Slide Step, Karsilama, Turkish Travel, Scissor Step, Arabesque, Beledi Steps.

Skirt and Veil; Figure 8’s, Veil Switch, Wraps and UnWraps, Envelope, Framing, Rope, O Swirls, Helicopter and more

Turns; Basic 4 Point, Dervish, Barrel, Wash Your Hair

 

In Tapestry Level II (Requires 12 weeks prerequisite in Level 1) you will learn:

Finger Cymbals, Combinations, Layering, Performance Dynamics. Props;  (Cane, Tray, Sword, Improvisation, etc.)

 

Advance Combinations and Layering are covered in Intermediate, Advanced and Performance classes.

 

In Tapestry Level III (Requires 12 weeks prerequisite in Level II) you will learn Performance Techniques, Improvisation, Constructing Shows, Advance Combinations and Props.

 

Tapestry Dance Theatre (By invitation, requires 12 weeks prerequisite in Level III  Advanced Group Choreography for paid and unpaid performances at Amara Galas, Haflas, Festivals, Fundraisers and Booking.

Requires a one year commitment to weekly  rehearsals and some investment for costumes.

Level I and II may also participate in some group dances at Tapestry yearly Gala.

Solo Performances

Amara provides choreography and coaching for Intermediate and Advance Students who qualify for solo performances at Gala Shows and other performances. Requires a separate class card or fee for privates. Privates are ˝ hour per 1 minute of music. Possible purchase of a costume of you choice. $15 per private.

 

TAPESTRY ATTENDANCE POLICY; Your Class Pass is for one month. If you  miss a class that month you can makeup in other classes that month if available with permission.

 

CLASS DRESS and Requirements. Please dress appropriately in stretch pants and tank top or light T-shirt. Bare feet unless authorized due to a health issue. No gum. By end of 4 weeks you will need to have purchased a skirt, veil, hip sash.  Level II requires a purchase of approved finger cymbals (zils) and props.
