It is my distinct pleasure to honor Shana (Cindi) this month with MEDLS Member of the Month Award. Shana is a New York based Belly Dancer for more than 30 years and she has run a successful entertainment agency for twenty years.

Amara: Shana, I am so impressed with your new book. I have known you now for almost 25 years.  Our relationship goes back to our successful Belly Dance and Entertainment Agency in NY during the heydays of Belly Dance in NY in the 80's and 90's.  Our relationship was destined; how do feel about this now that you written your first book; Grant Me A Higher Love; How to Go from the Relationship from Hell to One That is Heaven Sent by Scaling the Ladder of Love.

Shana; Amara, when I first met you I was a naive and a non business like dancer. The next thing I knew, I was performing in front of all kinds of audiences and in all kinds of places and that gave me so much confidence. Now that I have to these workshops associated with my book and speaking engagements, it is easy for me. Since I am used to facing all kinds of people, I don't feel intimated at all by it.

Amara; I guess what I am asking is the quality of our relationship as soul mate friends.

Shana: When I met you Amara, I was a belly dancer / waitress. and you were this beautiful, young dancer that came into the restaurant where I was working to do a bellygram.  You changed my whole life when you invited me to audition for your agency. When I started to work for you, I still had my weekend job, but you suggested that I leave my waitress job and take a risk to dance fulltime and to what I really wanted to do for a living. You told me to believe in myself and in the business.  As it turned out, we did go to build this phenomenal agency together.   then I went on to start a children's entertainment business, because you gave me confidence to branch out on my own. Since I was a theatre major in college, you actuallay helped me fulfull my destiny.

Amara: I have watched you go through this process of writing this book, but ws not truly aware of what you were doing. Now that you are publishing this, what has been the most important insight or awarenss that came to you that you did not expect?

Shana; I didn't expect all the support I'm getting from everywhere and from everyone. The book is a study of love and people just want to know what true love is and how to go about finding it.  It amazes me how people from all walks fo life are embracing this book.

Amara: Shana, tell me something personal that has changed for you as a result of writing this book?

Shana: It has changed my whole life. I now realize my calling is to teach about love, healing your life, and finding your soul mate. That wasn't something I thought I was going to be doing for the rest of my life. I thought I was going to be a playwright.

Amara: You and I are part of a legacy of dancers who have performed in more than 10,000 live performances in our belly dance career. How has this helped you in writing this book?

Shana: It has gotten me in touch with the Goddess energy. We opened a Goddess vortex and the book has alot of Goddess Energy in it.

Amara: What do you mean by Goddess energy and Goddess vortex?

Shana: Goddess energy is the creative energy of the universe.  Belly Dancing is a sacred dance that channels this Goddess energy and taps into the universal creative force.  Goddess energy is also called Kundalini energy, which is the Goddess energy as it manifests in the human body.  It is sometimes called the serpent force.

Amara: Tell me more, I am intriqued.

Shana: Amara, you're probably better at that than myself. You are the supreme Goddess in my eyes.

Amara: Why do you say that?

Shana: Every woman who enters your dance school, company, and troupe, you embrace them and help them get in touch with their inner and outer beauty. You make every dancer feel like a Goddess!

Amara: How does this in turn relate to the primary focus of your book which is about love?

Shana: I tried to use this Goddess energy to help me understand and write about Tantra and Sacred Sexuality.  It also made me feel a sense of sisterhood with other women and I wanted to help them find and keep a higher love.

Amara: Since I am also a reader, I am curious, what do you see that was common among people you read cards for?

Shana: Most people that come for readings want more love in their life, not just romantic love, but platonic love with family and friends.  They want to commune with loved ones who have crossed over. People who have crossed over always want to talk about love and apologize for not loving people better while they had the chance.

Amara: Now that the book is published, besides promoting, speaking engagements and workshops, is there a second book been planned?

Shana: Yes, it is called The Pain We Leave Behind. It's a book about all the things I 've learned from those who have crossed over.  Basically it tells about the kind of pain we take with us when we depart and the kind of pain we're blessed to leave behind.

Amara: What kind of resistance, if any are you experienceing abou the subject matter of this book?

Shana:  Well I am sometimes crucified about the sections of the book that deal with when we should stay in a marriage and when we should leave it.

Amara:  From where?

Shana: From the kinds of people who don't believe in divorce no matter what.

Amara: Tell me one thought that would help someone understand when it is time to leave a marriage.

Shana: If a woman is staying married because she's afraid of what people will say if she leaves, I would tell her that she cares more about what people think than what she feels is in her heart, and that's not a valid reason for staying in a relationship, is it?

Amara:  Shana, I want to thank you for this interview and I encourage all our readers to go online and participate in your blog, read your articles and most important read your book. Is there anything else you would like to say?

Shana: That you are a genius in the field of Belly Dance. That became evident from the first time I met you. You have this genius for picking up the zeitgeist, which is the unspoken feeling or spirit that's in the air.  You just know what people are thinking and feeling and then you translate that into art.

Amara: Really? Thanks Shana

Shana: That's how you caught the Belly Dancing wave at that exact right moment in time.  You picked up the vibration in the air that told this would be a good business. You knew when to get in and when to get out when it was no longer a huge fad.  You have done it with everything.  You kind of know when to go with something and you know when not to go with it.  I have seen this many times with you.  You take for granted this unique aspect of yourself that is really amazing.

Amara: Well I have to say also that you are really such a good dancer, entertainer, reader and writer and I am glad you are in my life.  Thank you so much for this interview.  For all those who want to learn more about Shana (Cindy), read her ongoing articles and blogs, order her book click here.
